Midnight Dinner

I don’t know why I prefer feeding the animals in the middle of the night, but I do most of my feeding after midnight. Sometimes cleaning too.

Now I’m laying in bed with Reilly sitting on me and scowling because he isn’t receiving 110% of my attention. The rest of the room is full of little munching sounds.

All of the mammals got carrots, Timothy hay, and their staple diets. The ones that don’t eat carrots and Timothy hay still got scraps of them to let them play with new and exciting objects and smells. Here’s hoping Wilhelmina anoints with Timothy hay instead of poo tonight. Hedgehogs like to rub things on themselves that smell interesting, and Wila usually chooses poo.

I intentionally trained my cats and dogs to expect food around the time I have dinner so they wouldn’t wake me. Can’t seem to stick with that for the exotics though!

I remember when my cat Dusty would scratch and nudge the bedroom door in the early morning because she was hungry. I learned quick we have to train them on our schedule otherwise WE end up getting trained by them. LOL

Absolutely! The cat my family had when I was a child got fed around 5 or 6 am when my dad was getting ready for work. She expected the same schedule on the weekend too. That’s why I feed my cats at dinner time!

Hedgehogs are so very cute! Are they nocturnal?

Yes, they are nocturnal, but not as strict about it as other animals. Pirate Charlie will wake up and come say hello when he hears me get home at any time of day.

Cute Hedgie! Our whole house is asleep by midnight. We tend to be morning people.

I’ve always been a night owl, but lately I’ve had a bit of insomnia on top of it, which has definitely contributed to the late night feeding. At least I’m getting stuff done instead of staring at the ceiling though.

I find that picture really interesting. You don’t usually see all their teeth like that!

And I thought I was a late night feeder with final meals being fed at 10pm! I like feeding late, because then the kitties don’t wake us up so early in the morning for breakfast!

That’s a good strategy! My cats won’t let me feed them too late. Eden starts yelling at me around 5 or 6 pm and doesn’t stop until I feed her. lol

LOL! Our animals think any time people eat, they should, too. So we do try to feed ours at the same time. Sometimes it keeps them from pestering us…but not always, LOL!

I like to feed the cats when I’m eating. Keeps them out of the way. Reilly will take food right off your plate if you don’t keep an eye on him.

Hahaha! Such a cute photo. I see nothing wrong with feeding your pets in the middle of the night. Since I tend to work midnights, my cats get fed in the middle of the night every night. We affectionately call that meal “Middle, Middle, Middle”. LOL It sounds like your furbabies are being treated like royalty. 🙂

Do the animals not mind eating late? Mr. N isn’t super rigid on meal times but he likes eating around our meal times.

She is adorable! I didn’t know they rubbed in such things, haha! Of course, some dogs like to do that too 😊

What a cutie pie hedgehog! My bedtime routine includes playing fetch in the dark and toothbrushing. Then we hit the hay! Hey, your sweet pals are eating the hay about the time we’re hitting the hay! We have a lot in common!

I tend to feed the girls later in the evenings, too. At least their kibble is in the front of the house so I don’t hear them munching. Wonderful photo!

Luckily, no one is too noisy when they eat. The crunching is pretty quiet most of the time.

I did not know hedgehogs liked …poop. LOL Similar to some dogs I guess! Our bedtime routine is much earlier (9:00pm) includes a drink in the tub, teeth brushing, and a snuggle under the covers.

I have a theory that it’s scent related camouflage, but I don’t know if that’s true. Not the easiest thing to get out of quills!
